Anita Roddick – RIP

We’re all reeling from the news of the death of Anita Roddick of Bodyshop. I’ve never had the good fortune to see or hear her, but I have heard so many excellent stories, even before this tragedy. One impression is that she had time for everyone, and went out of her way to help where she could. And that her overwhelming passion and conviction towards her projects certainly contributed towards her entrepreneurism.

My little connecting story goes back to when I grew up in Brighton, and just as I was entering into teenage-hood I noticed a tiny shop had opened in North Street offering just 10 products, including such wonderful items as peppermint foot-lotion and camomile handcream. Of course this was all strange and new, especially as it offered an alternative to cosmetics that could only have worked in Brighton. In other words, Anita was in the right place at the right time offering the right products to the right people – very clever.

The likes of Anita will rarely come by again, and she will be sorely missed.
